Jason Reitman hints at story for Ghostbusters 3

This past weekend saw the 35th anniversary of eveyones favourite paranormal action-comedy Ghostbusters.

Over in LA, on the Sony Pictures Lot, Ghostbusters Fan Fest was in full swing with some extra special guests.

Original cast members Dan Akroyd and Ernie Hudson were joined by Ghostbusters 3 writer/director Jason Reitman and a whole host of eager fans (many outfitted in customary brown boiler suits, of course) celebrating the iconic movie.

The highlight of the day came as Reitman hosted a panel discussing the plans for next years three-quel…

“We wanted to make a love letter to the original movie. I did not expect to be making a new Ghostbusters movie. I thought I was going to be this indie dude who made Sundance movies. And then this character came to me. She was a 12-year-old girl. I didn’t know who she was or why she popped into my head, but I saw her with a proton pack in her hand. And I wrote this story. This story began to form over many years actually. It started with a girl and all of a sudden it was a family. And eventually, I knew this was a movie that I needed to make.”

The girl in question, he revealed, will be played by Mckenna Grace, who was last seen playing the young Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel.

Finn Wolfhard, who in a spooky piece of foreshadowing was seen sporting one of the aforementioned boiler suits in last years Stranger Things, will play the girls brother, and Carrie Coon (Gone Girl) will play the pairs mother. But no word yet on who their father might be??

Reitman also confirmed that the film was very much aiming to capture the tone and feel of the original adding “I want to scare children.” Well ok, then.

Strong hints were dropped at the involvement of the original cast, as Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver have all read the script. (Weaver has since confirmed in an interview she will absolutely be returning!).

So, bustin’ does indeed feel good right now, but we’ll be crossing our proton streams in the hopes the new movie delivers. Are you looking forward to the return of the old guard?
