Ninjas Twitch channel used to advertise porn after move to Mixer

Ed Willey

What do you do when one of your top streamers packs their bags and move to another platform? Use their channel to advertise related streams of course.

For Ninja, whose recent move to Microsoft’s rival platform Mixer came as something of a surprise to the community, this came with a price when the channels being advertised on his dormant pr started showing porn.

Visibly quite upset at the whole thing, Tyler ‘Ninja’ Belvins took to Twitter to air his displeasure at his former home being used for less than savoury means.

Shortly after the incident Twitch CEO Emmett Shear offered an apology to Belvins stating; “Our community comes to Twitch looking for live content. To help ensure they find great, live channels we’ve been experimenting with showing recommended content across Twitch, including on streamer’s pages that are offline,”

Shear continues, “This helps all streamers as it creates new community connections. However, the lewd content that appeared on the Ninja offline channel page grossly violates our terms of service, and we’ve permanently suspended the account in question. On a more personal note, I want to apologise directly to Ninja that this happened. It wasn’t our intent, but it should not have happened. No excuses.”

Questions are sure to be raised after a number of incidents in recent months, with notable streamer DrDisrespect only receiving a two-week band for live-streaming inside an E3 bathroom multiple times, and the Artifact channel being bombarded with streams of copyrighted material and again porn.

Speculation on the nature of Ninjas move is also still circulating with many leaning towards a future involvement with the upcoming Halo Infinite, one of the launch titles for next years future Xbox Scarlett. Thanks to his rise to streamer stardom playing Fortnite, many are unaware Belvins originally cut his gaming teeth as a Halo pro. Prepare to see a lot more of him in the future.

Whatever Ninjas future hold, one thing remains, Twitch need to get their house in order, or others may just start to follow him away.
