Nintendo E3 Direct highlights

Az Joyce

Buckle up, cos Nintendo brought GAMES to this years E3 Direct. So much so we’re just going to crack on through, much was trailers lacking in any real detail, but we’ll do our best…

Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Two crossover events/DLC for Smash Bros Ultimate were announced, Super Smash Bros X Dragon Quest XI is up first this Summer. We were treated to seeing some of Dragon Quest cast brawling with all of our favourites. Then coming this fall, after some silhouetted teasing, the second cross-over was revealed to be Super Smash Bros X Banjo Kazooie, followed by footage of the iconic duo wrecking house with the Smash Bros roster.

Dragon Quest XI Echoes of an Elusive Age S

Following the Smash Bros crossover, we were treated to a trailer showing off the switch version of Dragon Quest XI, which was seen in the Square Enix conference, including the old school 2D mode exclusive to this edition. Also we received confirmation of the September 27th 2019 release date.

Luigi’s Mansion 3

Mario is lost again, so of course, his beloved green-hatted brother Luigi is here to find his Goomba stomping sibling in a spooky new hotel setting.

The trailer shows off new types of shot with Luigi’s trusty Poltergust 3000 including Slam, Suction and Burst, all of which give Luigi new ways to dispatch ghosts.

LM3 also lets players control “Gooigi” a spectral version of Luigi ala Slimer from Ghostbusters. Elsewhere ScareScraper is the online or local coop mode for the game where players can team up and hunt ghosts working across multiple floors for the ScareScraper.

Available 2019 no firm date.

Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics

A dark crystal tie-in for the upcoming Netflix show was announced. The new strategy RPG is coming later in 2019.

Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening

A trailer for the classic remake was shown and it looks absolutely stunning, remaining faithful to the original but with a modern spin on the visuals.

Teased in the trailer was a new option to build your own dungeons! Beating these dungeons will reward players with all sorts of nice loot.

The remake launches September 20th 2019.

Trials of Mana

We got a short trailer for the next entry to the Trials of Mana series, teasing the upcoming release of action JRPG coming early 2020. Not much to say here as not a whole lot was shown.

Collection of Mana

A bundle of the first three games in the Trial of Mana series was announced and is available today June 11th! Yay!

The Witcher 3

So after a bevvy of leaks here it is! The Witcher 3 Complete Edition is indeed coming to Switch in 2019. Quite how they’ve pulled this off I do not know but this is lovely. Also, it doesn’t completely look like mush so that’s great!

Fire Emblem Three Houses

The 479th Fire Emblem game got the trailer treatment in all of its Anime glory. It launches on July 26th 2019, no real details on gameplay, but plenty of cut scene goodness!

Resident Evil

The Gamecube remaster has received a trailer, with two teens playing the game in a spooky mansion even though it’s been out a while on the system.

But wait! This lead to the real announcement of Resident Evil 5 and 6 coming to the platform, it’s all good, this totally wasn’t a waste of time.

No More Heroes 3

No More Heroes 3 was announced and with it, Travis Touchdown returns in 2020!

Contra Rogue Ops

Coming September 24th 2019 with local wireless play and online coop and it looks INSANE!

Contra Collection

Also coming later today similar to the Tales of Mana collection! Get your Contra fix before Rogue Ops later this year.

Daemon X Machina

So this got another new trailer which looks absolutely nuts, which confuses me as the demo was nothing like this. Either way, it’s coming Sept 13th 2019!

Panzer Dragoon

Franchise reboot time and it’s coming this winter at some point. Gameplay showed off some epic dragon based shooting that the series is synonymous for.

Pokemon Sword and Shield

A short trailer was shown hyping up the November 15th release date and details that the Pokeball+ can be used with some aspects of the game. Check out our recent list of things to get excited about in this addition to the Poke-universe.

Astral Chain

Coming August 30th 2019 from Platinum games and this looks absolutely stunning and slightly insane like everything Platinum does.

Empire of Sin

John Romero’s new gangster strategy was shown and dripping in noir niceness. Empire of Sin is coming Spring 2020.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

So to tide us all over until the new Avengers game we’ve got Ultimate Alliance 3.

The cult classic series returns and Nintendo are showing off the platform exclusive in another new gameplay trailer. The footage also shows off some new heroes and villains as well as detailing expansion pass content coming from Marvel Knights, XMEN and Fantastic 4.

Ultimate Alliance 3 releases July 19th 2019 and expansion pass rolls out in the fall.

Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the Necrodancer feat The Legend of Zelda

Play as Link or Zelda in a new top-down Zelda experience which is also a rhythm game… Yup, it’s a rhythm game that we never knew we wanted or needed. Cadence of Hyrule is out June 13th, so we can get in on the madness real soon!

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games 2020

The old rivals are back with more crossover Olympic Games nonsense, with all sorts of game modes including soccer, wall climbing, boxing and many more. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games 2020 pole vaults its way onto shelves this November. Seems like they’re jumping the starting pistol somewhat, but ok.

Animal Crossing New Horizons

Animal Crossing fans rejoice, it’s here, it’s real, it’s happening, watch the trailer. Oh if you don’t want to do that, it’s out March 20th 2020.
